Opera Mini 8 brings private mode, night mode to Java-running phones and BlackBerry OS

New Delhi, March 26, 2014: Opera Mini 8 is out now with a restyled look and features to addresses the needs of mobile phone users. Custom made for the Java platform on basic phones, Opera Mini has more than 250 million monthly users worldwide and now comes with more features.

The fresh, new look includes an improved Speed Dial start page with redesigned tiles. Speed Dial, one of Opera Mini’s most popular features, provides easy, quick navigation to your favorite sites from hybrid mobile phones. A flat, minimalistic design throughout the browser brings a hot, new look to one of the most essential programs on your phone, letting you browse in style.

“Roughly half of our 250 million Opera Mini users are on basic phones, also called feature phones, and, today, their browser got even better,” says Christian Uribe, Product Manager for Opera Mini, Opera Software. “Opera Mini 8 has a lot of new stuff to try out, including night mode and private mode, but, for us, it is also important that Opera Mini is a pleasure to look at. That is why we have redesigned it to have a fresh, new look that fits into the Opera mobile browser product line.”

New and existing users of Opera Mini get top-notch features otherwise seen in much more expensive phones  for free.

Night mode

Opera Mini 8 includes a night mode that dims the effects of an ouch-that’s-bright screen, using darker colors that are easy on the eyes. Users can enable it in the Settings menu.

Improved savings reports

The new data-savings page allows for monitoring and adjusting how you save data, such as setting the quality of images, without having to detour into the Settings. All your surfing is squeezed down to as little as 10% of its original size, so, if you are on a bad connection or paying for data as you go, Opera Mini 8 will keep you online longer.

Private mode

Need to lend your mobile to a friend for Facebook or Gmail checking? Opera Mini 8 now supports private tabs that don’t save information once the open tab is closed. That way, you can stay logged in on your main window, while your friend checks out his or her account in a private tab.

Opera Mini 8 works on most basic phone models capable of running Java programs. Opera Mini 8 is available for free download from Java-based basic phone or BlackBerry OS now at m.opera.com with your existing web browser.

Opera products are used by more than 350 million internet consumers worldwide. Opera Software ASA also helps advertisers reach the audiences that build value for their businesses. The company delivers products and services to more than 120 mobile operators around the world.
