In an exclusive interview to Mouseworld Now,  Sushmita Das, VP – Business, Kobian Pte Ltd, reveals her business priorities, plans, and much more. Here are the edited excerpts…

Q. As a Next-Gen provider of tablets, how does Mercury view the Indian PC market? What are your major offerings?

Ans. The Indian PC market is focusing more on Mobile Computing -Tablets, which are fast capturing the Notebook market. Desktop PC growth has slowed and shall maintain a stable pattern.Kobian is focused on the Tablet range by offering high quality products at affordable price range. Our focus is on the product specifications, performance and service support.

Q. What is the USP of Kobian tablets? What drives your sales in the tablet segment?

Ans. Mercury mTab Tablets USP:
Designed in line with the latest technology trend.
Full specifications focusing on the display, processor speed and inbuilt storage
After sales support across the country.

Q. What’s your current pace of growth in the tablet segment in India? Over the next two years, how much turnover do you expect for this segment as a leading player?

Ans. Currently Kobian is doing approx 30~35k Tablet/quarter in India and we are expecting to grow to 100k/quarter this year as we are adding in a new series of products especially designed for India.

Mercury Tablets are a high end retail product in other parts of the world, thus this year we are adding Budget models for India along with the value and niche series.

Q. How competitive are your products in terms of pricing? Which specific tablet from Kobian stable currently accounts for the highest sales in India?

Ans. Mercury Tablets are aggressively priced but we are not the cheapest or in the competition with similar products. We believe in product quality and want to give an unparallel performance to every Mercury user. Our prices are very affordable for the product specification, quality and service that is available for mTab users. Currently Mercury Wi-Fi Tablets are higher grosser and the inbuilt 3G models are growing fast too.

Q. Apart from the warranty, what kind of after-sales services do you offer to Indian customers?

Ans. We provide Technical helpline for first time users.

Q. As a leading player in the tablet space, what are the main trends observed by you in this industry?
Ans. Prime focus is on
Processor –> we shall be launching Quad core based models in 2014
Inbuilt storage –> most models shall be with 8GB in-built storage and few models with
16GB. All have option to expand to 32GB
Display –> IPS and Retina Display panel shall be the prime in this year
Network support –> 3G, 4G and soon LTE.

Q. Please brief us about your key channel strategy in India? How strong is your channel network?

Ans. Our channel network is our strength in the market. We are further adding new strategic partners to our network.

Q. Your message to the channel community.

Ans. Focus on product specifications and quality which you offer to the end customer. For end customer, tablets are first time experience and the channel community plays an important part in their buying decision.  A good experience of tablet and its performance shall enhance the product acceptance and eventual growth.
