In an exclusive interview to Mouseworld Now, Mr. Premlesh Machama reveals his business priorities, plans, message to the channel community and much more. Here are the edited excerpts…

Q.Please give a brief introduction on Career Builder.

Ans: CareerBuilder is the global leader in human capital solutions. Through constant innovation, unparalleled technology, and customer care delivered at every touch point, CareerBuilder helps match the right talent with the right opportunity more often than any other site.

CareerBuilder operates in the United States, Europe, Canada, Asia and South America. Its sites, combined with partnerships and acquisitions, give CareerBuilder a presence in more than 60 markets worldwide.

Q.You started your India operation in 2008. By that time human capital companies like Naukri have been well- entrenched in the market. How did you manage to penetrate the market in face of stiff competition?

Ans: To say that we have penetrated the market would be wrong, but we believe there is still opportunity for a player like CareerBuilder with superior products and technology to make a difference in helping companies find the right talent. Our strength lies in our global leadership and product portfolio; we have about 300 Engineers working around the world trying to find ways and means to make products that will help in matching jobs seekers with employers.

Also, a market like India where the number of internet users are growing exponentially, if we can deliver value to business and consumers alike, we see no reason why we will not be able to carve a niche for ourselves here.

We launched a website in 2008, but it is only recently that we have started focusing on the market per se.

Q.Career Builder is considered a pioneer in “Cloud Recruiting”. Would you please shed some more light on “Cloud Recruiting”? How had been the experience so far?

Ans: Well, this would be a wrong statement, we are definitely pioneers in using cloud computing – we have products that are available on SaaS and our websites are available on multiple devices including mobiles and tablets.

Q.There has been a considerable slump in recruitment industry owing to recessionary pressures. How has this impacted your company?

Ans: Yes, it has affected everyone. As mentioned earlier, we launched a website in 2008, but due to the recession, we were slow in scaling the business in India. But we have a positive outlook now and believe there are companies on the look-out for candidates all the time, our goal is to provide value in terms of our products and services to help make the matchmaking process more efficient.

Q.Any novel technique or methods Caareerbuilder has employed to beat this trend?

Ans: With the advent of social media, we launched products that could help companies find candidates where they hang out most – Facebook and other networks. We also have products that can help companies build talent pipelines, we also believe it’s important for companies to present their employer brands and constantly engage candidates even when they are not looking for jobs – our products help companies achieve this.

Q.Would you please detail us on your existing client base in India as well as overseas?

Ans: We work with more than 92% of Fortune 500 globally and have a total client base of more than 300,000 companies. In India, we work with most IT biggies and are steadily garnering market share.

Q. How has been the India experience business wise?

Ans: We have grown by 100% the last 2 years and the experience has been great. India has a booming economy with a lot of opportunities for job creation.

Q. How has Careerbuilder merged technology with the methods of talent acquisition process?

Ans: We help companies target job seekers where they hang out – social media, mobile devices, job boards, etc. We have also seen that a lot of people search for jobs on search engines like Google. We have built technology that ensures that our clients’ job postings get maximum exposure and ensures that they don’t miss out on candidates. We also provide great experiences for job search on mobiles, tablets, etc and make it easy for people to apply.

Q.Who is your main competition in India?

Ans: Job boards like naukri and monster, professional networks like linkedin, etc.

Q. Of late, it’s reported that there has been an inbound talent flow (skilled people coming back to India due to lucrative work opportunities. To what extent is it true?

Ans: We have seen that a lot of companies are looking for talent that is coming back to India, but this is not such a big phenomenon as yet, we have a website for NRIs wanting to return to India and search for jobs here.

Q. There has been a drastic cut in IT recruitments in recent times with industry bellwethers like Infosys receiving the maximum heat. How long will it slug the IT scenario in the country?

Ans: Our spending on IT is only increasing month on month and if we are able to provide a significant tech and cost advantage to clients abroad, the scenario will improve. It is also our responsibility to impart the right kind of education to the youth as a major chunk of hiring in the IT sector happens at entry level

Q. Would you please reflect upon your business model?

Ans: CareerBuilder has a suite of more than 100 products including regular products like Job Postings, Resume Database and Employer Branding. Apart from these, we have products that can help you run referral campaigns on social media, products that can help you build a talent pipeline, etc. The model is plain and simple – we want to take these products to enterprise, SMB & Staffing companies.

Q.Any specific market strategy?Any particular plan for expansion?

Ans: We are always on the lookout for acquisitions and partnerships. We have 3 offices currently Gurgaon, Bangalore and Mumbai and are looking forward to expanding to other major cities soon.
