Googles-Android-Nation-retail-storesNew Delhi, India, June 20, 2013: In its bid to claim a piece of the pie of the retail market with brick-and-mortar stores, Google plans to open retail stores, called Android Nation across India to  help increase Android penetration in India.

Google partners Spice Global to set up the stores in various Indian cities. New Delhi will be the starting point for the retail venture.  Google’s rivals Apple and Microsoft already have retail outlets to enable customers to try before they buy.
Android Nation stores will promote and sell Android smartphones and tablets across multiple brands like Samsung, HTC, Sony, LG and Asus, etc., like Google’s stores in Indonesia.
Android Nation stores will serve as an Android experience centre. Customers can check out about the latest Android apps, get help from experts, download software updates, etc.
India will be the second country after Indonesia to get Android Nation stores.  The move  indicates the kind of importance Google accords to the Indian market. The first Android Nation store was opened in Jakarta in 2012. Google runs two stores in Jakarta in partnership with Erafone, an Indonesian retailer.
Delhi’s Select Citywalk will get the first Indian Android Nation store, says an insider report.
Spice Global will also promote Android devices in the Middle East, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia and Africa as part of the partnership.
Spice Global currently operates around 900 Spice Hotspots, selling various mobile phone brands and accessories.  They plan to convert about 50 of the Hotspots into Android Nation stores to enable rapid expansion of the franchise.
