Mumbai, India, January 15, 2013: The 2G scam story, which resulted in closure of telecom companies like Videocon, MTS, Tata Teleservices and Telenor in India has taken another twist. The Supreme Court of India has now allowed telecom operators, MTS India and Uninor to continue offering its services in Mumbai circle. These companies were expected to shut shops in India, as their 2G licenses were due to expire on 18 January but the Supreme Court has ordered them to continue their mobile services until it hears the case next on 4 February, 2013.

The Department of Telecommunication (DoT) had filed petition urging the Supreme Court to allow the Mobile Operators like MTS India (SSTL) (all circles) and Uninor in Mumbai circle to operate until the next Spectrum auction which will be held by 11 March,2013.

MTS had informed its intention to continue its services even after 18 Jan to its users. This latest judgement from the Supreme Court allows MTS and Uninor to operate in Mumbai circle beyond its license date i.e. 18 January.
