Trend Micro launches Trend Micro Mobile Security Personal Edition for Android platform

NEW DELHI, India, 1st Februaury, 2012: Trend Micro, Inc., a leading cloud security and mobile security provider, today announced the launch of its Trend Micro Mobile Security Personal Edition. Trend Micro Mobile Security Personal Edition, the latest addition to Trend Micro’s product line-up, protects both Android smartphones and tablets.

The Mobile Security Personal Edition includes a free app scanner, lost device protection and enhanced security to block threats while surfing the Web, calling or texting.

Earlier, Trend Micro had introduced Trend Micro Mobile Security for Android during CES in Las Vegas, NV in January 2011. The earlier version featured safe surfing, parental controls, download protection, and call and text filtering.

Trend Micro’s threat researchers have found new threats targeting Android devices growing at 800% since February 2011. According to Trend Micro, Trend Micro Mobile Security Personal Edition, which follows the release of Trend Micro’s Enterprise solution: Trend Micro Mobile Security 7, will better protect a consumer’s mobile devices based on the new data discovered over the last six months.

Trend Micro Mobile Security Personal Edition’s new features include: New App Scanner to block infected apps from installing and stealing personal information and the new lost device protection to locate a lost device, trigger an alarm, remotely lock it, or wipe it clean to protect personal information from a personal online portal.

Trend Micro Mobile Security Personal Edition also features an enhanced Surf, Call, and Text Security to block online threats like banking scams, unwanted calls and text messages and inappropriate websites to protect your children.

Trend Micro Country Manager India and SAARC Amit Nath said, “We believe mobile users need to be protected against malicious applications. To help protect as many people as possible and stifle criminal attempts to steal personal and financial information we are offering our anti-malware scanner for free.”

Additional enhancements offer a secure web-based portal that enables users to remotely find a lost device on a Google map and set off an alarm, even if the device is set to silent. The device can be locked from the portal. Also, the user can wipe the contents by triggering a factory reset. If the SIM card is removed, then the device will be automatically locked.
Users will need to connect to the web-based portal http://www.TrendMicro.com/ilostmyandroid for doing this.

We are confident in our ability to provide a range of solutions that enable people to live out their digital lives in a safe and secure fashion.” added Nath.

Parents too can set web surfing policies to block inappropriate content.

Trend Micro Mobile Security Personal Edition is available via the Android Market and major retail stores. While the app scanner is free, the premium services, including Lost Device Protection and Surf, Call, Text Security are available for Rs 455 for a 2-year license.
