Shekhar-Sanyal-Country-Head-and-Director-IET-IndiaBangalore, August 14, 2018: The Institution of Engineering and Technology (The IET) concluded the regional finals of the IET South Asia ‘Present Around the World’ competition on August 05, 2018. Rahil Mansuri, a final year mechanical engineering student from KK Wagh Institute of Engineering Education and Research, Nashik, was announced as the winner and Priyal Dhir, 4th year aerospace engineering student from Amity University, Noida, was declared runner up of the competition.

PATW is a global presentation competition for students, graduates and young professionals aged 18-30 years and aims to provide a platform to showcase and explore their talent and innovative thinking. Rahil Mansuri’s winning presentation on the topic ‘Life Enhancing Prosthetic Knee’ was awarded a cash prize of £ 400. XX (approx. Rs 35,000). He will now compete in the global finals which will be held in London during November this year. The runner-up, Priyal Dhir, was awarded a cash price of £ 300 (Approx. Rs. 26,000) for her presentation on the topic ‘Perennial Flight: Now Fly without Fuel’.

As part of the competition, individual competitors give a 10-minute presentation on a subject related to engineering and technology that aims to address a social problem. The competition provides a platform for students to instill a sense of culture of application and develop their communication skills, whilst resolving a social problem.

The IET, having taken the initiative to conduct SA PATW, shortlists candidates and trains them to get ready for the competition. The competition gives engineering aspirants an exposure and recognition at a global level and the IET supports and mentors the shortlisted candidates throughout.

“The industry is growing at a rapid pace with evolving technologies. While the engineering curricula is being upgraded to suit the needs of the industry, competitions like ‘Present Around the World’ are conceptualised to encourage students to use their theoretical knowledge into practical learning, aided by communication skills,” said Shekhar Sanyal, Country Head and Director, IET India.

“Our aim at the IET is to provide students and budding professionals a unique platform to explore their creativity and soft skills, and in turn contribute to their holistic development. PATW has been one of our marque initiatives and we are thrilled to see the talent this year again. We congratulate the winners and wish them luck for the global finals,” Shekhar further added.

This year, the competition witnessed participation from engineers across India and Sri Lanka vying for the top honors. The jury included Prof. J.
